BIR opens new 2.5-mile Competition Road Course
The 2009 racing season will be the first full season for our 2.5-mile Competition Road Course, which was completed last summer and now allows BIR to offer dual events simultaneously – on the drag strip and on the 2.5-mile track. The new championship-style road course uses portions of BIR’s 3.1-mile Donnybrooke Road Course but involves a new stretch of track that was built last year. Turns 1 through 8 of the original 3.1-mile road course is still used for the new circuit but at Turn 8, we built a 300-degree right-hand Clover Leaf that transitions drivers from the old course to the new stretch of asphalt that winds its way back across the infield, eventually tying back into the original circuit just before Turn 1. In all, the Competition Road Course features 13 turns and very little elevation change but is still challenging for experienced drivers and fun for novices. The Competition Road Course, this year, will host spectator races, club racing, BIR Performance Driving School dates, among other events. Car clubs, racing groups or individuals can rent the 2.5-mile road course for exclusive use if they have an event or want to test their cars.
