NASCAR K&N series is coming to BIR Memorial Day Weekend

SCCA to share the track; Muscle Car Series on the drag strip

nascarBrainerd International Raceway this season will host its first-ever NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race, a race that will highlight a speed-filled Memorial Day weekend.

Race fans will get their fill of racing May 25-27 during the 4th Annual Street Car Showdown. Joining NASCAR on the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course will be the Sports Car Club of America's (SCCA) Harvey West Classic. On the drag strip, BIR kicks off the three-race Muscle Car Series. And throughout the weekend, NitroMike Kunz will do 120-mph wheelies for a quarter-mile on the drag strip. What a weekend.

nascarThe NASCAR race will be Saturday only. There will be practice sessions, qualifying and the 50-lap, 125-mile race.

When NASCAR isn't on the track, the SCCA will feature national- and regional-level drivers competing in the Harvey West Classic. Drivers will be racing in more than 20 different classes, meaning high car counts, fierce competition and great action for fans, who will see high-performace race cars like Formula Enterprise, Grand Touring cars, Morgans, TVRs, Lolas, Spec Racer Fords and muscle cars like Mustangs, Cameros, Corvettes, etc. The SCCA and NASCAR will race rain or shine.

jpsNASCAR hasn't held a race at BIR since 2004, when the NASCAR Elite Division came to town for a single race. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is a more competitive racing league and is considered a developmental series for the future stars of the premier NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. Kevin Harvick and David Gililland are two examples of drivers who came up through the K&N Pro Series and are competitive at the Sprint Cup level.

More details on both of these events are still to come.

nitromikeThe Muscle Car Series on the drag strip will be the first of three races this season, concluding with the Muscle Car Shootout Labor Day weekend where series champions will be crowned. The series features the "fast five" classes: Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, King Street, Real Street and True Street, as well as another 14 other classes. Fans can expect to see some speeds north of 200 mph and times dipping below 7 seconds. Horsepower will be big and wheelies will be plentiful.
