Brainerd Int'l Raceway, Coca-Cola presents 19th annual Muscle Car Shootout: drag racing, classic car show.

(August 27, 2007) – Labor Day weekend wouldn’t be the same without muscle cars slugging it out for awards and bragging rights on Brainerd International Raceway’s quarter-mile drag strip. The 19th annual Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout will offer that and much more, including a classic car show and activities for fans of all ages.

The Muscle Car Shootout, which starts Friday and ends Sunday, will showcase exciting wheel-standing drag racing by more than 400 drag racers from throughout the Midwest and Canada who will be driving some of the meanest muscle cars on four wheels. They’ll compete in a number of categories, including the ultra-quick King Street, Real Street, Pro Outlaw and Outlaw classes. Fans will see these racers cover the quarter-mile track in 6-7 seconds, topping out at over 200 mph.

Off the track, show cars will be buffed up for a classic car show, where they’ll be judged in one of 28 classes. Fans can vote for their favorite as well, with the top vote-getter receiving the People’s Choice Award.

“The Muscle Car Shootout has a long history here at BIR, and is a annual favorite of many racers and fans alike,” said Scott Quick, BIR vice president of operations. “This event is always a lot of fun, with a lot of exciting activities taking place on and off track. It’s also the last major event of our summer season, so we enjoy it even that much more.”

The Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout also includes a number of fun games and activities for kids and adults alike, including a Coin Hunt and Fan Belt Toss, where participants toss a fan belt from a moving vehicle and try to land it on a cone. Participants will be competing for prizes.
