Ben Line is King of the Track!

Ben Line has been winning championships in Brainerd International Raceway’s Bracket Drag Racing Series for many years and has proven to be one of the most dominant racers in the last decade. On Sunday, he added another monumental achievement to his list of accolades: King of the Track.

King Ben!

The King of the Track race is an annual run-off between the top drag racers in the Bracket Drag Racing Series – a showdown to determine the best of the best. To make Sunday’s run-off even more dramatic, the final run was between Line and last year’s King of the Track, Travis Reutzel.

The race was as close as you’d expect, with the difference coming down to reaction times. Line’s reaction time was near perfect: .009 seconds. Reutzel’s was .045 seconds, which cost him the win at the finish line. Line’s winning time was 6.845 seconds and 90.54 mph.

The King of the Track win capped off a perfect day of racing for Line, who first won the Stock/Super Stock class by beating Dale Findell in the finals before disposing of four other drivers in the King of the Track run-off. He’s got a comfortable lead in the point standings going into the fourth Bracket Drag Racing Series weekend July 19-20.

Absent from the King of the Track run-off was Reno Loeffelholz, who is at the top of the points standings in the Pro ET Class. He’s been very tough to beat this season, winning both races during the last bracket race. He picked up right where he left off Saturday by winning the 51-car Pro ET Class to extend his winning streak to three. But his run came to an end Sunday after the first round of eliminations when he had transmission problems, knocking him out of the race and stripping him of his shot at the King of the Track title.

Shifting to two wheels, Jason Clampitt had a five-star weekend in the Pro Bike/Sled Class. He had a double-win weekend on his 1979 Kawasaki, taking home class wins both days. His only loss last weekend was in the semifinals of the King of the Track run-off. He lost to Reutzel by fouling at the starting line.

In Street Trophy, Tracy Arneson extended her points lead with a win on Sunday and a runner-up finish on Saturday.

Below are the final two rounds of the King of the Track run-off as well as racing on Saturday and Sunday.
