Thunder at the Lakes brings top Sportsman drag racers to BIR

Dual Event Weekend includes BMW Club racing

Thunder at the Lakes NHRA Divisional Race rumbles into Brainerd International Raceway June 1-3, with the chance to give race fans a look at some of the best Sportsman drag racers in the country.

Thunder at the Lakes has been a mainstay at BIR for several decades and has, in the past, highlighted Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars. This year will be different. There will be no Top Alcohol classes but fans will still be treated to some ultra-competitive drag racing in nine other classes: Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Sportsman Motorcycle, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. Fans will see dragsters, cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles on the track.

It's a Dual Event Weekend, with NHRA drag racing on the drag strip and the BMW Club on the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course. Fans are invited to watch both events for the price of a single ticket. The BMW Club runs rain or shine!

Thunder at the Lakes is a chance for drag racers in the NHRA's West Central Division to compete for division points and a chance to race at the NHRA Nationals finals next November in California. The West Central Division stretches from Wyoming to Wisconsin and from Colorado to Kansas, and includes parts of Canada.

Friday and Saturday are qualifying rounds, with eliminations and finals on Sunday.
