The ChumpCar World Series, featuring those lovable junkers with amusing themes, will be at Brainerd International Raceway this weekend for a pair of 8-hour endurance races.
Saturday’s race is on BIR’s 2.5-mile Competition Road Course. Sunday’s race is on the 3.1-mile Donnybrooke Road Course.
Pure Speed Drag Racing Experience is on the drag strip Saturday, giving race fans a chance to experience what it’s like to fly down the track at 140 mph. Fans can ride in a side-by-side dragster, drive a dragster, race a buddy in SS Camaros, or race their own car with an instructor riding along for instruction. There is a cost to do so, and reservations are required.
The ChumpCar World Series is a full-participation racing event for teams of four drivers. The team that completes the most laps after eight hours wins. As you might expect, there’s a lot of wrenching going on in the pits during the race, as eight hours of racing takes its toll on these cars. But that’s what makes it attractive to the drivers and teams.
Daily admission is $25, and kids 12 and under are free.
